Birds in Vancouver: May 8 08

I've been practicing shooting birds in flight (but they don't die)!

My Canon 1D Mk III is "made for" this type of photography, with its advanced focusing system, but it takes practice to develop the skills, and patience to "get the shot".

One of my "practice lenses" is the Canon 300mm f/2.8 IS, valuable because it is fast and sharp, one of the best Canon lenses. I'm practicing without a teleconverter at this point because I want to ensure the best focus rather than the "biggest" picture.

On this occasion I just spent a few minutes out on my deck, took a series of a crow flying and some swallows, and was impressed at how many shots came out sharp despite the small size and distance of many of these birds!
