The Canon 1D Mk III And Real World ISO 3200

I recently made an early morning trip to the Sauvie Island, Oregon Wildlife Area, and in the early dawn light I discovered a young buck deer browsing for food. I switched my 1D to ISO 3200, a setting that I avoid but which was necessary for the low light and the fact that the deer was in motion.

Despite some high ISO noise, I did get some keepers that were quite useable, although at enlarged viewing sizes would be noisy for my tastes.

Below is a set all from the same shot. First, the original shot, then a "useable" crop, then a 100% crop with all RAW sharpening and noise reduction turned off, then the same crop with sharpening an noise reduction applied in Lightroom to the RAW. The last crop could be improved on by selective sharpening and noise reduction in something like Photoshop, but for just a straight RAW 3200 shot, I think this gives a good starting point!
