The Siberian Stonechat is an extremely rare bird in the Netherlands, as the country does not lie along its usual migratory route.
These rare birds are simply vagrants, blown off course by strong winds. Sometimes, the interaction between a massive high-pressure system and a rapidly moving low-pressure system creates a corridor of powerful easterly crosswinds, stretching for thousands of kilometers and carrying some birds as far as Europe.
Since the bird's arrival in the Netherlands, and thanks to Rob, we can observe how it learns to adapt and survive. In this photo it appears to be searching for insects for lunch. ~VVVVV+++~
