What striking patterns you’ve captured on this plumage, Rob!
Unlike the Red-crested Pochard—which sports distinctive red eyes—this Northern Pintail possesses dark brown eyes set against a chocolate-brown face: a most understated combination. Yet, other Pintails are perfectly adept at spotting who is watching them—particularly individuals of the opposite sex. This male must surely be singing or whistling to a nearby female, for he has ceased swimming and rippling the water’s surface to focus exclusively on the goal of catching her attention. ~VVVVV+~
