Bee? What kind of bee?

DSC_8450a.jpg
Never saw this kind bee before.
I was taking pictures of dragonfly, these bees were flying around.
I try to take their picture but this bee just won't stop for 2 hours.
(most of bees will stop on flowers with no time).
Have to shot this picture while they were flying.
Is this bug really bees? What kind of bee?
Thanks to anyone can give me more information.

It may be a clear winged moth?

It looks like a male valley carpenter bee, Xylocopa varipuncta. They are very territorial and will patrol and vigorously protect a patch of flowers or other feature that will attract females. It's not uncommon for them to headbutt people! Males don't have a stinger, so have to resort to chasing or hitting to get rid of interlopers.

Wonderful closeup ... he looks as if he has a mission in mind, but I am wondering how on earth he gets off the ground. He is so fat and not what you would call aerodynamic! :)
