"Pheonix", the artificial port, seen from the German artillery commande post of the Batteries de Longues

This is looking towards the British sector of the invasion, and those obviously artificial breakwaters in the distance are an artificial port known as "pheonix", near the townof "Aromanches". Huge, concrete structures were floated over by the British and sunk in order to protect further supply and troop landings.
