Looking eastward along the coast from jettee in Port en Bassin

Port en Bassin was the midway point between the British and American beachesOnce secured, Port en Bassin became the fueling port for the invasion, and the set for the port-battle scenes in "The Longest Day". The hotel used (or built for the film?) was just a hundred hards in back of the spot from where I took this picture, on a juge concrete warf / jettee. The bit of scrap you see in the lower left hand corner is conceivably an engine and drive shaft from a ship of the period, but I didn't think to ask anybody. With the exception of the Batteries de Longues (in other photos), and a few bunkers, there are virtually no traces of the war, here (no tank or landing craft remnants), which leads me to doubt this. More likely from an old fishing boat. Perhapse I should call the town hall and ask.
