Santo Domingo or Cochiti Storyteller

Santo Domingo or Cochiti

Artistunknown
Pueblo / NationSanto Domingo or Cochiti
Dimensions6 5/8 tall x 4 1/4 wide
Date AcquiredAugust 2008
Paid$150
History / ProvenancePurchased on eBay. Seller was able to provide little history. It's probably more correctly classified as a "Singing Mother" than a Storyteller. It is unsigned, but in the style of Damacia Cordero. However I've been assured by a couple of experts its definitely not hers. Its been suggested that it might be a copy of her style by someone at Santo Domingo. It still looks nice and I'm not upset with the price--which was closer to retail than eBay. I gave it to my mother for Christmas in 2008. She doesn't like it. She prefers sentimental, saccharine things like Hummels so this isn't quite her style. Mom has also critiqued the mothering skills of the figure based on how the babies are being held.
