Metz is a city of glamour and elegance. Historically it has been passed between France and Germany many a time.
Finally it was regained by France in 1918 and is now the capital of the Lorraine region.
It has a cosmopolitan, elegant feel to it with pleasant riverside parks, canals, well proportioned squares,
a thriving high-tech commercial centre and a popular university.
