Since 2009 there is a sign on the rooftop of the former Hotel Erfurter Hof saying WILLY BRANDT ANS FENSTER (Willy Brandt come to the window)
created by David Mannstein. It recalls an incident in 1970 when a huge crowd gathered and shouted for Brandt to come to the window
during a visit for the first German-German summit. It was the first time visit of a West German statesman to the GDR.
It had a huge positive impact for the local people and was the reason why the square was renamed after him.
