My wife 1978 in East Berlin on her way to take the photo below.
Right after her quick shot, she was stopped by the East German Police.
It took a lot of convincing not to confiscate the camera.
Valuable images indeed. Today we may laugh at the absurdities of life in the East - as at the DDR Museum in Berlin - but it was no joke back in the Seventies. Hope you can dust off and scan more images from that time, Tom.
I wonder what the police didn't like ?? Makes me feel old that '78 seems such a long time ago :( Nice shot of your wife and interesting one of her shot V
a seemingly innocent image to elicit such paranoia from the police, although the lineup suggests the struggles of citizens during that unfortunate era..
Hmmm, quite a stride there Hannah, is that fellow taking your picture being a pest!! somehow the color evokes a sad nostalgia for this people in line, yet it brings a smile to my face as you walk away, perhaps the fact the stores have a happy ending V+
Very interesting Tom, Do I recognize the car as being a East German Trabant. I would like to see more of your pictures of this era. BTW your wife has gogeous hair !
