Flashback to East Berlin 1978

East Berlin, Germany

My wife 1978 in East Berlin on her way to take the photo below.
Right after her quick shot, she was stopped by the East German Police.
It took a lot of convincing not to confiscate the camera.

Valuable images indeed. Today we may laugh at the absurdities of life in the East - as at the DDR Museum in Berlin - but it was no joke back in the Seventies. Hope you can dust off and scan more images from that time, Tom.

a seemingly innocent image to elicit such paranoia from the police, although the lineup suggests the struggles of citizens during that unfortunate era..

The queue and drabness tell a story. An era hidden to most of us...here..

A picture with a story. The man eying her and the unusual action of using a camera.

Hmmm, quite a stride there Hannah, is that fellow taking your picture being a pest!!
somehow the color evokes a sad nostalgia for this people in line, yet it brings a smile to my face as you walk away, perhaps the fact the stores have a happy ending V+
