The Pilgrimage Church of Wies (Wieskirche) Front View

Steingaden, Bavaria Germany

The Church in the Meadow a Pilgrimage Church is an oval rococo church, designed in late 1740 by Dominikus Zimmermann. It is located in the foothills of the Alps.
It is believed that a farmer's wife saw tears in a statue of the "Scourged Saviour".
More and more people came to see the statue to pray so it was decided that a church should be built.

The Church of Wies was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983 and underwent extensive restoration between 1985 and 1991.
