On our western trip this July I enjoyed a wonderful and strenuous 12 mile round trip hike (with a 4,000+ ft. elevation gain) to the very scenic "high ridge" of the Bear River Range in northern Utah, located in the Mt. Naomi Wilderness Area. I was accompanied by my brother Eric and long-time friends Andy Keller and Jeff Wagner, all native Utahns. Our goal was to climb Mt. Elmer (elev. 9,566 ft.). Andy was the only one of us that actually summited - he's part goat - but the flowers were beautiful and the scenery fantastic, so it really didn't matter...We felt lucky to have visited such a place that sees few human visitors.
