Eastern summer orchids and wildflowers 2009

August and September were very busy this year. In early August Ron Parsons and Eric Lamont joined me for a memorable field trip to see some gorgeous Platanthera species and other delights in Eastern Pennsylvania. Eric and I visited the Gymnadeniopsis integra site in New Jersey again and were guided to a wonderful site for Hexalectris spicata (our first time for this species)in Virginia as well. I visited what had been an incredible population of Goodyera pubescens near Bedford, New York only to find that trees had blown down and the site was nearly obliterated... Thanks to some fellow Native Orchid Conference members, I saw Spiranthes laciniata and Corallorhiza odontorhiza for the first time this year. Enjoy the photos - they show how truly beautiful and interesting our native orchid species can be!
