On June 18th, 2011 I made a whirlwind one day trip from NYC up to the Cortland New York area to see some prime-blooming orchid species. I was guided by Matt Young, a Cornell University ornithologist who is also an excellent field botanist. Matt knows every fen in the area and showed me some wonderful orchid sites. He even has a fen named after himself (Young's Fen) which he helped get preserved. We were joined at several of the sites by Charles Ufford, Bard Prentiss and several other orchid folk. Well worth the 500+ mile round trip drive!
