The Wall and Guard Tower ...

Berlin

Notice the East German Policeman (Volpo) giving me ' the eye '. I've often wondered what they must have thought from their vantage points in the Guard Towers spaced all along the wall ... they could see life in the West Zone ... and they could see life in the East Zone ... and compare them daily. Younger viewers need to know that on the other side of this wall was a 'kill zone' to keep East Germans away from the wall, complete with barbed wire, land mines and machine gun fields of fire.

That "kill zone" was well shown in the movie "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold." It's difficult to believe that such a border existed.

Good shot Tom. I wish I'd had more freedom to take such photos during my visit to Berlin in 1974. I did manage a few candid shots. See my 'misc' gallery.
Keep 'em coming.
