... photo taken from in front of the Rex Hotel looking down the main boulevard toward the riverfront ... note all the Americans in civilian clothes. In 1966, off-duty US soldiers were authorized to wear civilian clothes ... this was later changed. Of further interest may be the barricades you see on the right side of the photo. These are directly in front of the Rex Hotel (officer quarters) (out of sight to my right rear)and positioned to deter use of car bombs.

My narrative is probably poorly worded as it seemed to have caused some confusion and/or discussion as to where the Rex Hotel is located. It is to my right (out of sight)from where I'm standing to take this photo

No, Rex Hotel is still on the right, but opposite from this building (which is Tax shopping mall). Imagine where you are sitting is Rex Hotel.
