A B-24 bomber crew with a pbase member's Dad

John Cross (jcross) is a long-time contributor and photographer on pbase and the photo is of a B-24 crew taken in Italy in 1944. The unique thing is that his dad (front row right)was a member of the 512th ... and the photo of the B-24 on my pbase page is of a 512th aircraft. John's comments are below:

Sometimes you find things that are beyond cool. In my family picture scanning project I came across this photo of a B-24 bomber crew. My dad is on the front row on the right side. This was taken at San Pancrazio Air Base in Italy where his 512th squadron of the 376th heavy bomb group was stationed. It was taken in July of 1944, a month before his 20th birthday. He was the co-pilot and the crew completed 35 missions in late 1944 and early 1945. I sent it to my son Richard because he looks exactly like my dad and thought he would find it interesting

I think my wife’s uncle Norman Gregersen was in that wing. His plane was shot down and entire crew perished. Norman’s brothers also served in WW2. One in the Navy and the other in the Army.

Very cool find and story. What is really nice, in addition to the fact it is such a high quality image, is that all the history is known about it - the when, the where, the who. So many of these kind of images are roaming about with no one really knowing much about them. My wife's dad was a b-24 navigator in the Pacific during WWII. My dad was too young and was in the Air Force during the Korean War.
