This is the first light with my new SBIG ST8300 cooled CCD camera. Boy, do I have lots to learn with the switch from a DSLR to a Cooled CCD!
This photo is made of up only 6 3 minute exposures for a total of 18 minutes! I am excited that it turned out as well as it did. I had originally planned on shooting M101 and getting about 2 hours of exposures but first night issues set in with my new setup.
- Issues with CCDSoft focus mode image display
- How to use only part of the frame or binned modes
- Turns out I needed to add an extender between the camera and the scope
- Started on too bright of a star
- Mount wouldn't calibrate for guiding
- turns out the USB hub does not provide enough power to the guiding interface
- Switched targets to the Leo Triplet assuming calibration problems were due how far north M101 is
- Still couldn't calibrate, didn't figure the USB hub issue until I was ready to go home
- CCDSoft FOV display issues
- Move to get NGC3628 in the FOV
- Clouds roll in
I tried processing in AIP4WIN and Deep Sky Stacker. The images are very dark compared to the DSLR photos I am use to. There must be a better way.
