This is a panorama from Utah beach. This is what the US troops would have seen on D-Day. Just over the sand dunes in the very front of the photo is a wet land. The ground cover is abundant, much of it is throny.

Now there is a US Military Cemetary on top of the ridge with some 9,400 US solders laid to rest.
