In September 1993, During the crisis in the Balkins, Croatian Forces made an inward push, breaking across a previously agreed upon ceasefire line near Gospić Croatia. The United Nations Protection Force had been under severe mounting criticism for a lack of action. As Croatia grew more aggressive against Serbia, UN decided to send in a force, Canada's 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Light Infantry was sent in with two French armoured groups. After a battle considered "Canada's fiercest since the Korean War", the Croat's were pushed back to their original lines originally agreed upon in the original ceasefire agreement. The result of this restored faith in the effectiveness of the UNPROFOR and their mission.

2nd Battalion was awarded the Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation for their actions during this battle in 2002.
