Turtle near the moat.

Here is a turtle near our back yard moat. The image is nothing special. It is slightly front focused, although I had his head in the center of the focus point the ground by his left front claw was also in the focus box, and that seems to be where the shot focused. There is a little noise in the picture also, but then it was shot at ISO 800. This is a 100% crop of the center of the image.

So what is the point of posting this shot? It was a hand held shot. It was at f5.6. And it was at 1/30 second. Oh yes, it was also at 400 mm focal length. That is the purpose of this shot, it shows a shot that could not have been made without IS. The lens was already all the way open, the ISO was pushed up as high as I thought I could get away with, and still the shutter speed was 1/30. With a 400 mm focal length on a D60 (640 mm effective) I am rather sure this image would have been blurred if not for IS. Of course, I could have done the same thing from a tripod, but I did not have one with me.

Canon EOS D60 ,100-400 L IS
