Aha, so they're not grice. Too bad, I liked calling them grice, but c'est la vie!. - Glad you liked the sounds and smells. That is great praise for a photographer.

Hi Todd,

Judging from the long neck and largish size, I think these are wild turkeys. According to the folks at Armstrong State Park, turkeys are not native to the region. However, they certainly found a great place to live.

When I was younger, I sometimes hunted grouse. They are usually smaller, short-necked birds that tend to stay in cover. They make an unforgettable drumming sound with their wings. When spooked, they tend to fly to safety (or run if they have good cover).

Great pictures. I was really taken back to the sights, sounds, and smells of the area.
