It doesn't look like much now but there was a time when this sign was in much better condition.
In fact, at that time this sign sported green neon letters.
When I was a kid, this sign and the Quonset hut it's on stood at the the outskirts of town.
Whenever my family returned from a trip south we would pass by this building.
The lit sign, glowing green, was a welcome sentinel.
I looked forward to seeing this sign, late at night, returning from a long trip.
It always meant that we were almost home, just a few more miles to go.
But that's all changed now.
The neon is gone, the business moved and Bakersfield is so much bigger.
But I still remember that green neon glow…
