First DIY Project
After painting some of the rooms, we decided to dress up the mantle over the fireplace a little. Here is the before and after of our first project. There are many more to come

One Week to go
We are slowly getting down to the last few details. From the outside the house pretty much looks done (if you overlook the fact that there won't be grass until it starts to grow in the fall.) The cleanup crew will be in this weekend and the the final touches will be done early next week. The house is on schedule to be turned over next Friday.

Water heater goes in
This week all the lighting and appliances showed up. After the AC got hooked up we did not have to roast while looking at the house. Maybe this will also speed up the sub-contractors as they don't have to sweat to death while working in the house. Most of the electrical work should be finished by next week to include lights and such. Its great to see the details of the house start to fall into place.

Final Grading of the front
The Final grade went in along with about 140 tons of top soil. The CR6 was put down for the driveway and the blacktop should go down at the beginning of next week.

Countertops get installed
After going though the pain of picking out "another" option when it came to the granite, we ended up with our original picks. When we showed up to pick out the three slabs, we were quickly told that although they confirmed just that morning that they had at least six in stock, they mysteriously could no longer be found. We picked something similar just to have the same vendor tell our builder that they gave away our granite just days before it was going to get installed. Needless to say, we did not use that vendor. The Granite turned out nicely. This granite has the propensity to sometimes be too "peach" or "orange". That is why we were going to pick the slabs. Happy with how they turned out though.

Kitchen Cabinets pretty much finished
Cabinets are in except for the finishing trim. You get the idea of what its going to look like though. Hard to believe that there is more real estate than our present kitchen. It will be a perfect kitchen to entertain in. Counter tops come in next Friday. :)

The Garage doors arrive
The back-ordered garage doors finally came in and got installed. The front porch was also finished up with the pouring of the sidewalk and placement of the columns. Now if we could only get the driveway poured, the exterior will be mostly done (with exception of the lawn...which will come in once the weather cools off a little in the fall)

Kitchen Cabinets start to go in
The kitchen cabinets arrived and are getting installed. The countertop folks come in on Friday to do the template for the countertops. Its nice to start seeing the interior come together.
:: Interior Paint and Trim ::
The interior paint and trim started last this week and should be done early next week just in time for the cabinets to come in around the 20th. There is still a lot to do, but finally the interior is starting to look and feel like a real home.
31-MAY-2008
Front steps get poured
The drywall is coming along. Taping and mudding happened over the last couple of days and is getting close to completion. The front steps were poured and it looks like the walkway is getting close to getting done too.
28-MAY-2008
Down the gutter
Not much of a change on this shot, but if you look closely enough you will see that the gutters got added to the house.
24-MAY-2008
Kitchen Drywall
Drywall is in progress. Will be nice to see it once they get it done early next week.
24-MAY-2008
Exterior is done
This week they finished the siding on the house and started on the drywall. Drywall should be done by Wednesday.
19-MAY-2008
The stone front is done
All but the front door steps are done now. We have to finish the Portico before that can happen. The siding should get put on starting on Wednesday and as long as the weather holds out this week, should be done by the end of the week.
19-MAY-2008
House gets insulation
Now that the framing inspection is done, the insulation got to go in today. As long as all goes well with this inspection, the drywall will start on Wednesday.
07-MAY-2008
Stone front is almost done
Not much exterior work this week due to some rain, but most of the stone is done. Just some odds and ends before the scalfolds can be removed.
05-MAY-2008
Stone gets started
They started putting the stone front on the house yesterday. Looks like it might take another day to get the bulk of it done. The punchout framing work has also been completed as well as most of the electrical and plumbing.

Kitchen starts to take some shape
Although it is not much, the lines are starting to show where the future kitchen cabinets will be places. This starts to give an idea of what the kitchen will look like. Still a ways off for now, but its always nice to see some progress. If you look closely enough, you will notice that the window in the picture will have to move a little bit to the right to be where the plans called it to be. Right now, the edge of the cabinets will be in front of it. A little oops that should be taken care of soon.

No more water in the house
Over the past couple of days the rest of the windows were put in and the roof was put on. I guess we start worrying if we see water in the house from now on out. The stairs were also put in so we now have access to the second floor.
12-APR-2008
End of week Two
This is the end of the second week of framing. Most of the large structure is up. Most of next week will be spent working on the interior details. I am also guessing that the roof will go up to help dry in the house. We had some rain today and we do have a leak problem as it stands right now. :)
11-APR-2008
roof decking 99% complete
Yet another hard day of framing. The roof is mostly decked. Only a small part over the morning room still needs to be decked. Some of the windows made it onto the house and the half-rounds above the sitting room in the master bedroom and entry way got cut in as well. Looks like the big work is mostly done. The weather has really cooperated this week. Before we know it, the house will be dried in and the weather will play less of a role.
10-APR-2008
one day closer to framing completion
Most of the day today was spent putting on the decking for the roof. There are only a couple of places left and the framing will be complete.
09-APR-2008
....and now the roof
The house is starting to look like a house. We are well on our way to finishing up the framing by the end of this week as promised. Hopefully the process stays ahead of schedule as it has been.
07-APR-2008
The second floor goes up
The weather tried to come in, but we were lucky enough to only get rain over the weekend. This allowed for the second floor to go in today. With any luck, the roof will be on in the next couple of days.
03-APR-2008
The walls go up
They got most of the walls for the first floor up today.....well.....at least the exterior walls. Hope it stops raining by morning so we can continue to see progress.
02-APR-2008
The basement gets a lid
Weather was great today and the basement got covered.
01-APR-2008
Steel beams go in
Since it rained this morning, the framers got a late start, but the I-beams did make it in as well as the frame for the stairs leading to the basement. Weather tomorrow should be nice, so we'll see how far they get.
31-MAR-2008
The lumber gets delivered
The materials for the framing were delivered today. Framing should start in the morning and should take about two weeks to complete. It will be nice to actually see the house go up.
28-MAR-2008
Where did the dirt pile go?
Most of the large scale grading is complete. You can see that the large piles of dirt are all but gone. Some fill dirt will still be brought in as the construction continues, but the yard is starting to take more shape.
28-MAR-2008
The floor goes in
Time to pur the basement and garage floors. The weather held out long enough. We have forcasted thunderstorms for the afternoon, but the concrete guys decided to show up anyways and do their thing. If all stays on schedule, the framing will start next week.
23-MAR-2008
The lot starts to take shape
Now that the basement walls are poured and waterproofed, we start to see the yard take shape as the piles of dirt start to disappear. Most of the grading will be done at this time, but the final grade won't take shape until closer to the end of construction.
14-MAR-2008
The forms come off
The basement is pretty much set. I guess its too late to add a window to the basement at this time.
13-MAR-2008

This is the view from the other side looking into the kitchen and morning room.
13-MAR-2008
Up goes the house
The footers and basement walls were put in today. Its nice to see the house start to take a little shape. Once the walls are weatherproofed, the yard will start to take shape too. Not that the kids don't mind the big piles of dirt, but it makes it hard to mow.
07-MAR-2008
The Dig
Today they started the dig to get ready for the basement footers. As long as the weather holds out, they will start to put the forms in on the 10th.

The "Boss" is here
Ainsley's new favorite word: "The Excavator". Here she stands in its tracks.
05-MAR-2008
The boys check in to make sure everything is on schedule
The boys loved stopping by the site to check on the progress. The last time they had seen the site was when it was in its untouched state, so they saw a huge change. They love to see the progress so far.
05-MAR-2008
Cleared Lot
The lot is mostly clear of trees. Some grading will still need to be done, but will probably not get done until the backfill from the basement gets done.
03-MAR-2008
The trees are coming down
The clearing of the lot begins.
28-FEB-2008
Here comes the Excavator
This shot was taken two weeks before the official start of construction. Heavy equipment has been dropped off to clear out the trees to make room for the house.
02-FEB-2008
Empty Lot
This is a shot of the lot from the southeast side facing west. The trees between the lots should stay, but some grading will be done to level it out just a little bit.

Lot 168
Made the decision on the lot and the fun begins!
