 Truck-Lite 27270C was on sale at NAPA for $80 - regularly $162 (Amazon) |
Heard they were a near drop-in for the /5 bucket and wanted to try it out. |
Weighs 3 lb 7oz and is cast metal backshell |
Shallow depth fits /5 nacelle |
Measures 85mm from ring on lens to back of shell |
The /5 headlight ring fits over it, but the latch tab interfers |
If the tab is removed it appears the ring would fit perfectly. |
Since I tie-wrap the ring to the nacelle, not a problem losing it. |
Measures 23mm to lens ring. Almost the same profile as an H4. |
If the raised ring is ground off the backshell it would slide in. |
Grinding off the lip took some time trying not to gouge into it. |
Aluminum also jams the grinding wheel so had to keep cleaning it. |
Took several passes to rough it out. Now roll it around the wheel to smooth it. |
Dropped right in with a firm push. Will fine tune the diameter so uniformly snug all around. |
 |
Hits the Motometer cowl before seated, but not by much. The cowl can be bent back a bit. |
Go figure... the Motometer has a bevel exactly where I need to bend the cowl. |
Stock pigtail is a direct plug-in. Looks like wire bundeles have clearence too. |
I think the fuse block will fit if adjusted a bit. Lots to cram in, but almost same room as H4. |
Motometer drops right in without interference. |
Looks like the signal indicator might be tight for depth, but workable. |
Even moved back when seated it appears to space for the key-board. |
I used an aftermarket mount to easily move things and look at fitment. |
Already used infrared gun to check lit temps for high/low. Generates about the same heat as H4. |
Have to check power draw to see if relay or switching needs to change. Think it's OK. |
Put on ears and black TT brace with TT Hi-risers to see what it looked like as funky Cafe. |
Kind of a Sci-Fi look. When mounted will check the light pattern against an H4. |
