We see many of the Ceanothus Silkmoth in Colfax,California regularly and they get to be quite large i.e. 6" wing span. They are interesting as they have a "Nike" type of design on their wing.

I think I found an eyed hawk moth in my garden in Reno, NV. Have you had any experience with this species being found in the United States?

I have caterpillars that look like Buck moth caterpillars pictured on an Alabama site. Do we have such caterpillars in CA? They have red heads--reddish brown. They do look like the buckmoth you have pictured but don't see the distinctive red head in your photo. They are devouring the leaves of one of my cherry trees from top down rapidly--any suggestions to get rid of them

I just returned from a backpacking trip in the Sierra west of Bishop. The Granite Park area was filled with moths hovering about the pine trees and willows, this was an elevation above 10,000 feet. Their wings had a black and buff pattern that resembled a tigers stripes. Was this some sort of, once in every ten year occurrence? I've never seen so many before in all my previous trips over many years.

Had a recent run in with a Catapillar while camping,damm thing ended up in my shorts left my entire right thigh covered in welts. i'm going on the second day of exposure and boy is it uncomfortable. I'm not sure what type of Catapillar it was but it was black and about 2 inches long..........
