I so long wanted to photograph this phenomenon after so many times gazing at the light rings on the branches. It's a difficult feature to photograph, very much so without my trusty tripod! I'd need more DOF and less ISO here... but in the end, I like this, though the phenomenon does not jump out like it does live.
What happens in the frozen branches of this birch here is that the light reflects mostly on the branches that are perpendicular to the apparent direction of light, creating the illusion of rings of light around the street light. Which is nice.
