peekaboo2.jpg (click pic to read story)

Just as I was leaving my office this afternoon, I spied this swift hard-shelled creature trekking accross the driveway of my office. I slammed on the brakes, grabbed my Nikon D100 out of the bag. While pulling the camera out of the bag I noticed that the mounted lens was the 18-35. Not what I had in mind, but did I have time to mount another lens? Maybe. I looked out the window of my SUV (which I need for shoots such as these), and noticed that he had spotted me and seemed to be trying to make a fast brake for the shelter of some tall weeds. Finally, with my lens of choice (105mm micro) mounted, I was ready to shoot this prehistoric armorclad beast. I flung the door of my SUV open and began to exit the vehicle, but "OH NO", the vehicle began to take off without me. With one leg in and one leg out, I was just able to stop the vehicle and put it in "park" before it, and me plunged off a cliff into the depths of the gorge (12" deep ditch) adjacent to my office. After exiting the vehicle and catching my breath, I wondered if I would still be able to get a shot. I turned where I thought the beast may have been headed, and to my suprise he had not moved an inch. In fact he had partially turned around and took a seat to watch a fool nearly kill himself just for a stinking shot of a TURTLE!
