We gave our daughter a cheap refurbished point and shoot camera when she turned 4 and to my joy she really showed an interest in photography. Well, fast forward a couple of years to today and Ellery did her first shooting with a DSLR. I had some camera gear out today and she asked me when she could use one of the "Big" cameras. I had kept my very first DSLR, a Nikon D100 for really no good reason other than to gather dust so I thought this might be fun. I slapped an older 50mm lens on it and gave her a quick ten minute lesson and off she went. I can't tell you how proud I am of my daughter and her first work with the "Big" camera. Of course the close-up and macro shots weren't taken with a straight 50mm lens, but a couple of cheap screw-on diopter filters work just fine. I kept her work as pure as possible with no cropping or major editing other than a few tweaks to the levels on a few of the shots and some sharpening.
