The Zurich zoo has grown over a period of almost 80 years. Each building and structure reflects the idea of presenting animals of the period it was built in. Some are even that far behind modern guidelines that the new managment has decided to close them and to give the animals to other zoos. The polar bears are gone already and the chimpanzees are next. For others new facilities have been built, are under construction (lions) or being planned (elefants, primates). Because the bigger part of the reconstruction has to be financed by donations, it will take it's time.
The new concept clusters the animals according to geographical and ecological context, and I use these clusters to group the zoo pictures in my galleries. Those not fitting in these groups are shown here.
