Coot feed on almost anything they can get. Naturally they prefer water plants and mussels (here especially zebra mussels) for which they have to dive. In the colder part of the year you can also see whole flocks grazing on lawns. I exclude here pictures with coot fighting for the tons of bread thrown in by well-meaning people.
