When the waters are low you can sometimes see carrion crows digging for swan mussels. Their bill is to weak to open them. So they take them to the air and let them fall. If they hit something hard the mussel cracks and can be cleaned out by the crows.
One day I was able to get barely close enough for taking pictures. Bad weather and low light left me with photographs of documentary value only.
