Tomnavarie Recumbent Stone Circle at Sunset

The Tomnavarie recumbent stone circle near Tarland is about 4000 years old, apparently aligned for major phases of the moon however maybe just by chance (I doubt it!) two days on from the winter solstice the sun seems to be setting nicely in alignment with the main recumbent stone.

A fantastic shot! The reason the midwinter sun is setting in line with the recumbent is because it was taken to the west of its centre.

There is a real air of mystery here. The light is wonderful.

Wow, that's impressive! Tony's right, there's something Biblical about this, half expect to see Noah leap over the recumbent :o)
