On October 29th, 1998, Hurricane Mitch made landfall in Honduras. The storm killed over 7000 people. In Tegucigalpa, the Choluteca River was dammed up by debris and water rose to the 3rd story of the buildings downtown. Whole neighborhoods slid into the river. I was there to document the effect on the people and to raise money for relief efforts. The second-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record affected everyone in Honduras and many have never recovered from the devastation.
