Ganat

A qanat (or kariz) is an ancient, subterranean water management system developed in Iran over 3,000 years ago. It uses gently sloping underground tunnels to tap deep groundwater in mountain aquifers and transport it by gravity across arid plains for drinking and agricultural irrigation.
