These are shell gatherers of Lake Mainit in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte, who dredge the lakebed day in day out. Residents will then pick the shell and sell them to a fishpond owner in a nearby town to be fed to prawns. The picture may appear to have been taken at daybreak or dusk, but it was actually photographed at high noon (12:40 p.m. to be precise). I was already aiming for a silhouette picture (exposure can be easily previewed with the digicam’s LCD monitor), but still I took about a dozen shots to capture the right placement of the boat and perfect positions of the boatmen.
