Agusan Marsh in Agusan del Sur province may not be easily accessible. But if you get the chance to go there, it's a photographer's paradise. Start by travelling to the poblacion of Bunawan, then ask people around how to get there.

its so hard to smlie when his around it's so hard to laugh when our roads cross.... it's so hard to cover all the pain you feel inside making people thougth your just fine... when you can't turn your back with the thing you've wish to last.... when all u want to do is to scream and shout and cry till the last teardrop fall, if pain shall vanish by just drinking Redhorse and San Mig.. I'LL be willing to take it ,yet when tomorrow comes and when i open my eyes the pain still stays... it never leaves.... i just pray and wish it's not to stay....moving on .... yeah i know i should logically we know how to move on the question is HOW? WHEN? and WHERE..

this is the things that dreams are made of.. i hope the local people will protect their treasure always for future generations and forever limit the tourism in this area. one thing i have noticed in viewing other sites about the marsh is that each site lists the hectare area as different with one even listing it as over 14million hectares.. one says 19 million and yet another 56 million hectares.. does anyone really know ??
GOD BLESS those people living in this paradise..

Eco tourism is good and at the same time empowering to the local communities. But we have to be very extra careful to protect the place from any unwanted destruction. Mabuhay mga Agusanons.

Good day, I would like to 'network' with the writer who posted on Sep 21/07 who is from Loreto or any contributor who has local connections as a source of information to make this trip possible. Would like some information on how best to float down the agusan marsh, local contacts for possible homestays and guides, when is the best time to do it, and how long will it take to float down the entire wetlands. I have been researching this plan for so long and am simply grateful to have seen this website. Bob, congratulations on beautiful, majestic photos. Appreciate you taking the time to post the photos and grateful to those who shared thoughts. Please email cjsa99@yahoo.com

hi mr bob, im from Loreto, Agusan del Sur and i get to see these views for almost my childhood life and everytime i visit my hometown.I always enjoy the trip in the "pumpboat" from Bunawan, an hour and half travel while looking at the "pang-pang" and the houses along the river and passing through some fisherman or even a litlle kid "nagabug-say" in his "baroto". Im so touched by the way you illustrated the lifestyle of those people along Agusan River, those floating houses- their "bang-ka's", and the view of the marsh. It is really a nice shot- it makes me miss my hometown.More power to you and thank you for sharing these precious sights and bringing back memories of those mere little things that we sometimes forgot to value.God bless!!

Actually I'm from Johnson Loreto Agusan del sur, where Agusan Marsh is very near located, i can remember the days when our family business was transporting people from Bunawan to Johnson(Loreto), almost everyday we passed the Agusan Marsh area and people who travelled the first time saw it were amazed of it's uniqueness. It is really a beautiful place, but that time it was not yet discovered that it has a potential for ecotourism. Wow! at last, today I read in travel guides that Agusan Marsh is one of the premiere tourist attraction in Agusan del Sur... I hope someday i could go back there and do some business there. I can even a tourguide for you guys coz I gew up there & I know a lot goin there and talk with the manobos...
Hope people there will help each other preserved and promote AGUSAN MARSH..

I am very glad that many are now aware of the one of the most important habitat in the world. As one of the pioneering personnel who were able to proclaim and even included the site as Ramsar site, our hardships seems to be compensated now. You can just imagine the efforts that you would exert of starting a project which is very new to the local people, to our elected officials and of other concerned agencies. I am hoping that more people would appreciate Agusan Marsh.

Hi! You have a GREAT site and VERY NICE pictures! I am from Cagayan de Oro and now living in New York for 6 years now. Looking at the pictures makes me feel so at home. Hope you can put more pictures about Mindanao cause I am showing it all to my friends here. My friends who are from Russia and the Americans too are really enjoying them! Keep up the good work!!!

dearest bob,
the images are poetic. pwede nang pang-entry sa National Geographic. how about a photo-documentary on Rio Grande or Lake Lanao? just came back from an International Digital Photography Fair here in Cologne this evening and I was imagining one or some of your photos there. padayon!

bob,
taga-iligan din ako.i'm on my 4th year na sa UP-Mindanao (Davao City).
Ayos talaga ang nga shots!!
I'll be going to Agusan Marsh next month for my thesis..mag-expedition kami with a team of biologists and ang aming team from applied math cluster. My thesis would be to quantify the leaf area of the sago palm.
I also do photography, but I stick to film which is more on the lighter side for my allowance. Hinatag lang sa akong auntie ang Minolta na SLR, i don't even have a flash pack..it's an old camera but what the heck -- it simply depends upon the one who takes the pictures.
Hope you can gimme more tips.. kmusta na kaya ang iligan? I miss iit na..
