I became interested in photography in the early '70s when a friend showed me the black and white prints that he had made in a makeshift darkroom in his apartment. I bought a 35 mm SLR and darkroom equipment and got hooked almost immediately. Within a year I had upgraded to the top-of-the-line Nikon and some serious lenses and accessories. This was before autofocus and auto exposure. My camera and lenses were all manual. I couldn't have been happier, and spent my spare time studying reciprocity tables. The next year a professional photographer introduced me to the Zone System, and I bought Ansel Adams' five book series and a view camera.
This photograph is from that time period -- before I became too busy building my house to spend much time with my cameras. The other pictures on this web site are from my digital SLRs.
