I had eleven Ragged Fringed Orchids blooming in my woods this year. A large one inches from the path where I walk my dogs every day was protected by a tomato cage, and I always carefully monitored the dogs as we passed it. Yesterday I was passing that orchid three hours after walking the dogs and saw a smaller orchid that I hadn't known was there pulled out of the ground and lying limp, partially hidden by a young tree. I assume that one of us snagged it while I was watching the caged orchid. It has perked up nicely, and I'll try replanting it soon.
