This aspect of culture is fascinating. I've seen two shoe trees, one in northern California and this one in Nevada:http://www.pbase.com/listorama/2006ut2_shoetree .

Cool shot but I would rather the trunk didn't bisect the shot directly down the middle. I think that a vertical composition with the trunk to one side would work better.
