Historic 1821 Erie Canal Lock #71
1841 Enlarged Lock #60
1874 Doubled
1888 Lengthened
The canal was re-routed and expanded in the early 20th century.
The old lock (shown) is nearby Lock #30 on the current canal.
I rode my bike along the towpath from Fairport to this lock today.

Very good choice. For practically all my life I've lived by a canal that had fallen into disrepair long before I was born. Thankfully, it has been restored as a great recreational facility.

Nice shot from this angle. Really shows how solid and well built this is. Cool that you can ride your bike along the towpath.
