Building a Gauge one Wainwright Class D Locomotive

Gauge one track is 45 mm between the rails (1:32 or 3/8" to the foot is the traditional scale).
This gauge has become popular with garden railroad enthusiasts in recent years.
Although the trains are too small to ride on, many of them do run on steam! Some steamers use radio control to operate the controls in the cab.
The Gauge 1 Model Railway Association, has published a number of plan books for building gauge 1 live steam engines.
One of these plan books features the South Eastern and Chatham Railway, class D 4-4-0 designed by Harry Wainwright in 1901.
Read an illustrated history of the prototypes here.
Information on a preserved engine at the National Railway Museum in York, England.
I started building this model in October, 2012.
