Great, Great Grandparents: Adolphe Eucher Coallier dit Novion, aka Uger Qualia, aka Eugene Quillia, aka Eugene Qullia, aka Ludger Collier, born May 25, 1838, Boucherville, Quebec; emigrated to Malone, NY where he married Marie Nadeau born NY, who emigrated from Quebec at age 1 with father Louis Nadeau.
Children: Henry, George, Charles, Eugene Jr., Ida, Albert, Benjamin, Samuel, Wilfred, Marie Josephine.

Great Grandparents: Samuel Quillia and Theresa Gervais. They had 16 children, but not all are pictured here. Only 9 names are known to me (William, Wilfred, Arthur, Edwin, Rena, Lillian, Raymond, Mary, Elizabeth). Photos include Samuel standing alone on a porch; and a photo of Theresa in a group photo with daughters Lillian, Mary and Elizabeth; and several cousins of Lillian, Mary and Elizabeth.

Great Aunts and their first cousins: Any photos will show the name of the offspring with a reference to their parents. S&T indicate that the named person is an offspring of Samuel Quillia and Theresa Gervais. B&E indicates that the named person is an offspring of Benjamin (Samuel's brother) and Benjamin's wife, Emma Beaudette. I&JB indicate that the named person is an offspring of Ida Quillia (Samuel's sister) and her husband Jean-Baptiste Champagne. C&M show that the person is the ADOPTED son of Charles (Samuel's brother) and his wife Mary Legrenade.

(Benjamin: brother of Samuel Quillia and son of Eucher Coallier and Marie Nadeau). I could not have made the connection to "Cousin Jimmy" without the help of a very gifted genealogist, Becky Norman, who was able to find in only a few hours what took me months to find--and then within a few more weeks was able to trace each lineage back several generations, complete with siblings and their families, then she moved forward to present day so that I could meet nice cousins like Jimmy and we could share information. How she does this, I do not know. Thank you, Becky!

Note: Since Eucher and Marie were illiterate, they depended upon others to spell their own names. Coallier dit Novion was Americanized. The dit name was dropped and Coallier became Collier, Coulier, Qualier, Qualia, Quillia, Qulia, Qullia, Kulia and even Zulia. Most American Coallier descendants continue to use these variations today and have no idea of its origin. Incidentally, Nadeau was Americanized to Nado, Naddo and Neddo. Gervais was Americanized to Jarvis; Lefebvre to Lafave. Eucher Coallier migrated to Malone, NY and became "Ludger Collier" at St. Joseph's church in Malone, NY. Many Quillia's in the next two generations migrated to Worcester, MA; Rutland, VT; Bradford and New Haven, CT; Syracuse, NY and parts of NJ. My g.grandfather Samuel was baptized as Coallier, which later became Quillia. When he moved from Malone, NY to New Haven, CT he used the name Quillia. As an elderly person, he went by the surname Coalier.
