The reason I made the flash bouncer is that I was asked to take photos at a live nativity at night. I didn't use flash at all for the actual performance, but I took photos of the cast with the live animals afterward, using a flash with this foam bouncer. The bouncer was pointed upward one or two clicks forward of vertical, and yielded pretty decent results. I also found that if I extended the plastic diffuser on the 580EX I got even more flash power. I guess this spreads the light out sideways, getting a better bounce off the foam.
