Hendricks Ave. Baptist Church fire

On the morning of December 23, 2007 we awoke to the news that Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church had been completely destroyed by fire. The sanctuary had
stood on this site since 1957, but had undergone a complete renovation about 7 years ago. The Moller pipe organ (now gone) was added in 1989, and the
large stained glass window depicting the outstretched arms of Jesus, was added in the recent renovation. These photos show the aftermath of the fire.

Tim, It has taken me this long just to look at this tragedy. Some of the pictures are especially heartbreaking.....the piano lid, the choir robes, the ashes, the empty window panes. When I heard the hope and positive attitude in your voice, it was such a great witness. Pretty amazing after seeing all of this that you captured through the lens with your special gift!

God has wonderful things in store for this church. As I read the articles about the fire the faith and strength of the church members is evident. I continue to pray for you. From a member of a former church which Kyle served. Linda

This church was a big part of my childhood, my parents live down the street and informed me of the fire. I was so sad to hear that it happened to such a wonderful group of people You are in my prayers.

I am Jeni Nelson, Vickie Lander's youngest sister. I'm talking with Vickie on Skype now, looking at the photos of your church. We are so sorry for your loss, but are very encouraged by Vickie's stories of the violin player, how the Jesus statue was charred, how the wreaths are still intact. From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia we are praying that God will make you stronger as a church family as you walk through this tragedy together. It is a good thing to post these photos. It helps people process what has happened. It has helped me support my sweet sister from 10,000 miles away today. A blessed Christmas to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. This is proof that the church is not a building--it's the people.
