sign of spring!

North Haven, Maine

Found this very lethargic garter on my walk today, I almost stepped on the poor thing! Temps have warmed here in Maine and hibernating critters are crawling out!
The common garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) is a species of natricine snake, which is indigenous to North America and found widely across the continent.

A sure sign of spring. A very pretty snake in his woodland abode. And an excellent photo. V.

Argh... I am not fond of snakes but it's a nice capture of one.
