Dartmoor

view map

This is the entrance to Grimspound on Dartmoor. It is thought to be a bronze age settlement, more for keeping livestock than for a defensive position.

When I think "England", my mind goes to something like this. (Sorry, Your Highness, Charlie and family)
The rocks, rolling hills, all we need is a little mist.
This is classic, Tony, and much better than usual light, I am sure.
Wonder how this scene appears the week before Christmas...

Very interesting photo and story! I think I can hear the dog (of Baskerville) barking on the other side of the hill! Lets take a walk and find out...

Thanks everyone for nice comments, The rock you can see on the skyline is called Hookney Tor, a natural rocky outcrop.

Fascinating photo and story Tony.
l wonder if that stone wall in the distance is
from the same period and possibly part of the enclosure.
And are those more ruins on top of the hill ?

A well composed image from this vantage point and with this perspective. Nice expanse behind the entrance way.

Dartmoor, a place I have heard a lot about, but unfortunately never got a chance to visit.
That stone entrance leads the eye nicely out onto the moors. Lovely shot Tony.

I love it that you have such documented historical sites so available and
can share them with us. Thanks!

Marvelous countryside, Tony. Nicely captured.

A fine shot.
To my shame I've been around this area a lot but never to here.
Something to rectify.
