laugh at openly or in secret. And the bombastic "cuckoo" eagle on his helmet. Wilhelm II, out
of power, lost his place in history, or rather took a different place, in a form unexpected to him.
At the least he got a safe home in Holland, as opposed to his cousin Nikolai Romanov in Russia:
shot and acid poured over his corpse. Or his young compatriot "Charles the Last" of Austria,
forced to an exile on Madeira Island. Or even earlier the Luis XVI and Antoinette of France:
head chopped off by a guillotine. End of Age of Empires, indeed. But much worse was to come.
