I have to admit, I did not knew that this pivotal part of American History originated right here, in San Antonio, Texas!

The hotel hosts several exquisite showcases with artifacts outlying creation of the now famous regiment assembled by Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt and Colonel Leonard Wood to fight in the Spanish-American War in 1898. They were called the "Rough Riders." That was the origin of the US entering the World Stage as a Super Power, a sovereign position held to this day as a grandest Nation in history.

We were lucky to spend some quiet moments at the Menger Bar, marveling the exhibits including regiment flags, Teddy's gloves, helmet etc. Suddenly huge crowds flooded the lobby of the hotel: Apparently a local band of children was about to perform Christmas Carols. A perfect ending to a perfect evening.
